A Virginia couple was sentenced last Friday in Montgomery County Circuit Court for their roles in a crime spree, part of which occurred in Montgomery County.

Wesley Kevin Davis, 34, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on numerous charges. Amanda Linn Johnson, 27, was sentenced to six years.

Davis had pleaded guilty previously to charges of theft by unlawful taking-auto, theft by unlawful taking-firearm, fleeing or evading police, first-degree (motor vehicle), fleeing or evading police, second-degree (on foot), first-degree wanton endangerment, giving an officer false identifying information and third-degree burglary.

The sentence was enhanced because he was deemed to be a second-degree persistent felony offender.

Davis did not address the court at sentencing.

Davis and Johnson were arrested in March after an alleged crime spree that involved the burglary of a barn belonging to Edwin Burden, theft of an ATV and later a vehicle from the gas pumps at Krystal Shell/Apple Market. It allegedly ended with a high speed pursuit that came to an end in Carter County.

When he was captured, Davis allegedly gave authorities one of several aliases he was known to use.

Davis was also indicted last Friday by the Montgomery County Grand Jury on several charges stemming from his alleged escape from the Montgomery County Regional Jail Aug. 16.

Following his alleged escape, Davis reportedly broke into a residence on Dove Trace Drive and stole a 2105 Toyota Camry belonging to Raymond Meade, according to the indictment.

Davis was captured the following day in Lawrence County, Ohio.
Jailer Eric Jones said previously that Davis, who had been the subject of numerous disciplinary actions, broke free from a restraint chair and ran from the facility.

Johnson had previously pleaded guilty to charges of third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking-auto and theft by unlawful taking-firearm. She was also charged as a second-degree persistent felony offender, which enhanced her sentence.

Johnson apologized to the court through her attorney, public defender Charles Landon.

“It’s sad you’ve gone down this path, but you have shown remorse,” Circuit Judge Beth Maze told her. “Hopefully, you can put this behind you and move on with your life.”

Maze ordered that Johnson be placed in a facility with a substance abuse program.

The couple also face charges in Virginia, where a 62-year-old man was reportedly shot twice during the course of a robbery.
