Authorities seized 6,791 marijuana plants and detained 12 suspected illegal immigrant workers Monday at a property on Paris Pike.
More arrests are expected to follow as part of the suspected marijuana grow operation, Kentucky State Police Sgt. Dusty Honn told the Advocate Tuesday.
That investigation is still pending, he said.
The plants were spotted recently by a helicopter with the KSP Cannibas Suppression Branch and were eradicated Monday with the help of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the County Road Dept., Honn said.
The plants were burned at the Midland Industrial Park.
Honn said the property where the plants were found was part of Montgomery County Greenhouses owned by T.J. Bigstaff at 2603 Paris Pike. Several people reported seeing KSP aircraft at the scene Monday.
Bigstaff, 62, of Mt. Sterling, was arrested by the sheriff’s office on an unrelated warrant for cold checks, Honn said. Bigstaff was booked at the Montgomery County Regional Jail and later released.
Honn would not say whether Bigstaff is a suspect in the alleged marijuana operation.
Agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement are handling the suspected illegal immigrants.
Honn said he would release more information as it becomes available.
