Memorial Day Services set

5/26/2017

By Brianna White
Advocate Staff writer

The annual Memorial Day ceremony will take place on the steps of the courthouse at noon, Monday, May 29.

Mayor Gary Williamson will be this year’s featured speaker.
The public is invited to attend.

Before Memorial Day, the American Legion and Auxiliary Post 22 and Unit 22 will be at Kroger, Walmart and Save-A-Lot to pass out poppies Friday, May 26, to anyone who would like to wear one through the weekend and on Memorial Day.

The poppies are free, but donations will be accepted to go towards the medical and personal needs of veterans and soldiers.

The poppy represents the blood shed by veterans and soldiers for their country, and the official Poppy Day is the Friday before Memorial Day. A proclamation was recently signed by County Judge-Executive Wally Johnson and Williamson to declare Poppy Day in Mt. Sterling.
