Triplett indicted in local case

8/19/2016

A man who once appeared on the FBI’s Most Wanted list was indicted last Friday for an alleged kidnapping and rape in Mt. Sterling.

Ronald Glyn Triplett, 67, was indicted by the Montgomery County Grand Jury on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, kidnapping and first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

The three most serious charges are class B felonies punishable by 10 to 20 years imprisonment, if convicted. The criminal possession charge is a class C felony punishable by five to 10 years.

The indictment alleges that on or about July 31 Triplett forced a woman “into his vehicle against her will by grabbing her from behind and holding a gun to her head and made threats to physically harm her if she did not comply.”

The incident reportedly occurred on the city’s east side, police say.
From there he allegedly forced her to engage in sexual intercourse and “deviate sexual intercourse” by forcible compulsion, according to the indictment.

The last charge states that he reportedly possessed several counterfeit $100 bills.

An investigation involving Triplett began after the woman showed up at the local hospital claiming that she had been kidnapped and raped.
The woman, other media reported, told investigators she was reportedly taken to an undisclosed location and sexually assaulted.

A week later, according to those reports, Triplett was taken into custody without incident in Michigan. He waived extradition and was returned to Kentucky last Wednesday.

While in Michigan authorities reportedly seized additional items of evidence in connection with the Mt. Sterling case, which has been turned over to a forensic lab for examination, police chief David Charles said. Seizure of items came based on search warrants obtained by the dept.’s criminal investigations section, he said.

Triplett is currently lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash bond.

Police have said that Triplett has a lengthy violent criminal history in several states.

It’s been nearly 30 years since Triplett appeared on the FBI fugitive list. He allegedly escaped prison in Michigan in the 1980s when he was being held on robbery and attempted murder charges, according to media reports.

At the time of the latest incident Triplett was living on Ronameki Drive, Charles said. He did not appear on the state’s sexual offender registry because his other alleged crimes predated the registry, the chief said.
Charles said there is a strong possibility that there are other local victims.
Anyone with information about any other crimes allegedly committed by Triplett is asked to call Mt. Sterling police at 498-8899. You can anonymously e-mail the dept. tips line at tips@mtsterling.pd.com or message the MSPD on Facebook.

Charles said it is unclear how Triplett came to live in Mt. Sterling.
An indictment is a formal accusation of a crime, but does not establish guilt.
