Family escapes Jeffersonville fire

11/20/2015

By Tom Marshall
Senior Advocate writer

A family was displaced Sunday when a kitchen fire struck their Jeffersonville home.

The fire at 8315 Main St. in Jeffersonville was reported at 10:56 a.m., said Dewon Wells, a spokesman with the Montgomery County Fire Dept.
When firefighters arrived they saw smoke coming out the windows on one side extending to the roof, Wells said.

A resident of the home reported that he had placed some oil on the stove and went to a bedroom with his daughter where he fell asleep, he said.

Another daughter noticed the fire and got the family out of the home, Wells said.

Other media reported that there were four family members at the home when the fire occurred.

The home had extensive heat and smoke damage, Wells said. Fire damage was centered around the kitchen, where some cabinets were burned. The fire extended into the living room where it was put out before it caused extensive damage, Wells said.

Firefighters cleared the scene around 1 p.m.

The home is owned by Sharon Wilson who responded to the scene.
The renter was identified as Carl Oliver.
